Katie Mortimore is normally better known for her photographic work, but with Covid affecting her ability to work she has turned to her artistic roots creating fabulous and funny cartoon illustrations. Although she has only been offering her art for a short time commercially, Katie has been drawing and painting all her life and has created many pieces for friends and family
Katie also creates other artistic works as you will see on her website but the cartoons are easily becoming the most popular. The cartoons are a mix of ink and watercolour, but she also works in gouache, pencil and other traditional media, in addition to creating digital artworks.
The reaction to her artworks has exceeded all her expectations and she has been receiving fantastic feedback from recipients such as that below;
“I CANNOT. COPE! To say that she captured my two troublemakers perfectly, would be the absolute understatement of the century! Here is a perfectly created drawing of Paddy pulling up the fencing in his field, and Flash rolling in sloppy mud – their respective favourite things to do.
This piece was not drawn directly from an image, this was drawn purely from a description of my horses that I gave to Katie, and a few unrelated images of my horses. I am so impressed with how perfectly she managed to capture them – I have not been able to stop laughing, because it’s just so true to form for them both “
Working with provided reference photos and information about the subject Katie creates simply brilliant custom illustrations. She says the more information that clients can provide regarding the character, quirks and habits of the subjects the better. It’s not just horses she draws as well with lots of dogs and humans appearing in her portfolio.
